Should I self quarantine and if so, how long?

My son was just diagnosed with covid today. He is vaccinated and previously had covid (Sept) he has very mild symptoms including cough, sore throat, and some congestion. I am vaccinated and boosted but have spent a bunch of time with him in the car the past two days. Should I self quarantine and if so, how long?

Probably. It depends a bit on what you do. If you have a job that involves interaction with high-risk people (like I do in nursing homes!), definitely quarantine for a week and be tested frequently. If you have a job that is not quite so high risk and doesn't have a lot of contact with people and that can test you daily, you might be able to work given that you have made the excellent choice to be truly fully vaccinated. As you know, this new Omicron variant can be spread very quickly (even to vaccinated people), but your vaccination status makes it unlikely that you and your son will get sick.
Thanks for the question.
Although the CDC site says if you are boosted, you do not need to quarantine, my concern is that even boosted vaccine does not prevent acquisition of the virus. It does protect against severe disease. I would therefore quarantine for 7 days if you remain without symptoms.
