Receding gums have many causes. One of them is brushing too hard. While plaque and food particles need to be removed, there is no need to brush gums too hard.
Yes, you can brush the receding gum area of the teeth, use gentle pressure to prevent further recession.
Yes, please brush your gums and teeth 3 times a day with a soft bristle toothbrush. Circular motion, not a hard scrub. Scrub tile, toilets and bathtubs, brush your teeth.
Brushing is your best defense against more recession. There are methods to restore receding gums as well. Consult with your dentist about this.
Many people, when they notice recession, brush even harder and longer. This is not the solution. It may make matters worse. A lot of the recession I see is over brushing too long and too vigorously and using too hard of a toothbrush. Gentle brushing with a soft toothbrush will not do this.
You should be brushing your teeth regardless of receding gums. Only brush the teeth you want to keep. See your dentist regularly so they can help you maintain and healthy oral environment.
