Why do people feel sleepy after eating lunch but eating dinner delays sleep?

I don't think what you describe is true as a general rule. How you feel after a meal and how soon you sleep afterwards depends on many factors and will change from day to day and even within the same day. Some of the factors are: what is ingested, how much is ingested, the fat and calorie content of what is ingested, the time of day, recent sleep patterns, mood, ingestion of medicines, alcohol, caffeine, etc etc.
