This can be from just about anything; recent infection, allergies, reflux, voice overuse, untreated sleep apnea, smoking, overuse of antihistamines, dehydration. A lot contributes to the sensation of pain and mucus, as well as he production of mucus in the throat. Go over your symptoms and surrounding events with your primary physician to try and narrow down the problem before going to see an ENT.
