Upper hip pain left side?

I have had this pain on my left hip, in the back, below my waist, and above my buttock. It used to only be when I was asleep. It’s gotten worse, wakes me up, and now is constant, also during the day.
I am taking lots of ibuprofen as the pain can be sharp and take my breath away. If I bend and move too much it’s worse. Normally when I am at home I walk my dog for over an hour a day. It’s only been hurting constantly for less than a week. I am concerned because I am in Kansas with my grandkids while my son and his wife are at the hospital with the youngest who will have open heart surgery tomorrow.

What can I do to ease the pain besides ibuprofen? As far as I can tell there is no redness or swelling, it just aches. I eat no processed foods. I am 64 years old and my blood work was perfect a couple of months ago. I do have PTSD and MDD, both currently in remission. I take meds for depression, high cholesterol, high blood pressure. I take vitamins. Please give me some idea how to keep this pain at bay, some idea what could be causing it. I intend to see my dr when I return to Florida in a few weeks. I pee a lot, but I always have.

You need to see a physician to examine your hip. Prolozone therapy or prolotherapy may help your condition. Please check the local physician who offers the above procedure in your area.

Firstly. I am so very very sorry about your grandchild and that in itself is stressful, which of course makes things much worse and difficult as any stress interferes with healing. There are a number of problems that might have triggered this episode you are experiencing. Taking all the extra ibuprofen is not good for you and it appears it’s not helping as much anymore. I have not examined you obviously and it would be remiss of me to advise you to try other modalities .however putting a pillow between your knees if you sleep on your side propping pillows under your hip can also alleviate stress on the spine which also helps realign your hip whilst in bed.

You never said how long you are to be away from your home? My suggestion is you get a recommended Physiatrist in the area and try a nerve block or something similar. You need spinal intervention which could be a form of an injection that might greatly give you pain relief. Have you had an MRI recently? I would also advise you to get one when you are back home to get a base study in the event there is further deterioration. You are still a young lady. The fact that this seems to have started after your travels may be as simple as the mattress in the bed. I am a great believer in stretches and there are a number of yoga/pilates that help but I would prefer you saw an experienced medical specialist. Or you could see a sports specialist, I say sports as they usually have more training.

Given the fact you walked your dog for an hour without problems suggests to me it may well be the bed you are sleeping on and the travel. In other words positional and lack of support from the mattress. Sittin /lying in the same position for an extended period of time can cause all sorts of twists in the body. Good luck with everything and I hope your grandchild makes an excellent recovery. Sending good energy.
Hi there, first off, ICE is the best natural pain reliever, and inflammation decreaser. Ice will help. A stretch for that area to do VERY LIGHTLY is to lay on back with left leg cross figure four style over right leg with knee bent and bring the right leg to chest with left leg/ankle area above the right knee. That will stretch the PIRIFORMIS muscle which is a hip external rotator and runs over the sciatic nerve. Also, stretch the gluteals by laying.
That pain can be from a tendon that attaches to the top of the pelvis. This tendon is part of the "core" that keeps the spine and the pelvis together. Usually, it is treated symptomatically with anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, naproxen) or Tylenol as well as local applications of creams (Voltaren Gel) or BenGay, Icey-Hot. There are also some stretches that can be done to improve the strength of the tendon attachment and prevent this from continuing or coming back.
She needs investigations. First XRAY of L hip. Blood work. She uses a large amount of Ibuprofen. Creatinine may be up. Rheumatoid factor and ANA. Alcohol use excludes AVN. Then treat further.
