Hello,

Cord around the neck can be risky to the baby. I recommend you follow with your obstetrician's advice for the best for the mother and baby.
If the umbilical cord is twisted around the neck and is jeopardizing circulation to the baby, baby's oxygen supply can be decreased. This is a risky situation for the baby. In general, cord around the neck is not an uncommon problem during pregnancy (diagnosed on maternal ultrasound) and does not need intervention (early delivery), but in your wife's case, it must be severe and serious enough for the obstetrician to recommend delivery. Generally, outcome for babies born at 37 weeks is very good, however, the ideal time for delivery is 39 0/7 weeks + for the most optimal outcome.
