What anesthesia is used for bone marrow biopsy?

I am a 45 year old female. I will have a bone marrow biopsy. What anesthesia is used for bone marrow biopsy?

Different anesthesiologists use different medications. I suggest you talk to your physician before the procedure and ask her/him that question. I only used Lidocaine as anesthesia before my bone marrow biopsies. 


It depends on the person who is doing the procedure, but lidocaine is most commonly used as local anesthesia.
Usually, versed, in an IV shot, local lidocaine, to the skin & more deeply, to the cortex, of the bone marrow. I always make sure to check to be sure I’ve got the right area numb, before removing the needle from the back, & starting to do the procedure. Good luck!!
Usually the interventional radiologist uses conscious sedation for pain medication. That can include fentanyl and versed, but it may vary depending on the provider doing the procedure and the patient's medical issues and pain tolerance.
