“What are the disadvantages of spinal anesthesia?”
I will have hip surgery under spinal anesthesia. I am afraid of anesthesia. What are the disadvantages of spinal anesthesia?
1 Answer
There are some advantages of spinal anesthesia such as less blood loss, no need to have a breathing tube in the throat, less stress on the heart and lungs, and prolonged pain relief after the surgery if the anesthesiologist adds long-acting morphine to the mixture. A few disadvantages are postural spinal headaches, however, if a spinal anesthetic is done with a smaller Guage spinal needle, then chances are minimal.
