Typically, groin and buttock pain worse with activity like weight bearing. Pain that keeps you up at night or keeps you from enjoying life. Multiple interventions such as meditations, physical therapy, etc., should be tried before considering a hip replacement.

The most common earl symptoms are groin pain and loss of motion particularly internal rotation (the foot points out when you walk).
Hip replacement is the operation for end stage arthritis of the hip (grade 4). It goes from Grade 1 to Grade 4 and it takes years for that progression. Initial stages have milder pain, but with advancement of stage, the pain gets worse. Need for replacement is multifactorial. It depends on symptoms, objective exam findings and XR, MRI findings. If someone has hip pain, then regular follow up with your orthopedic doc is important. On a broad level, worsening hip pain is a sign of worsening arthritis.
