I have a history of cavities. What are the latest recommendations on the frequency of dental check-ups and cleanings for someone with a history of cavities?

If you’ve dealt with cavities before, I’ve found it really helps to be extra careful about how often you see your dentist. From what I’ve seen in practice and what current guidelines suggest, people with a history of tooth decay usually do better with check-ups and cleanings every 3 to 4 months instead of just every six months.
The reason is pretty straightforward. Coming in more often lets your dentist catch any early signs of new decay before it gets serious. It also helps keep plaque and tartar from building up too much. Of course, everyone’s different, so things like how well you brush and floss, what you eat, and your overall risk play a role too. That’s why it’s important to work with your dentist to figure out what schedule works best for you. Sticking to regular visits like this can really help protect your teeth and keep your smile healthy over the long run.

Every 6MO should be adequate. The most important thing is to follow your doctor's (dentist) recommendations and seek timely treatment if issues before they get bigger.
If you have a history of cavities, the frequency is still in the 'every six month' window. If you have concern of a tooth bothering you, a dental clinic should be able to accomodate for a limited examination. Typically the only time you would shorten the interval for a check-up/cleaning is if you have risk of bone loss and your periodontal condition warrants increased cleanings over the course of the year- either in a every 3 or every 4 month period.
