Hello--

1. Start with your family doctor. Present the symptoms, your observation of when the child is a 1 or a 10 on the rage scale. You must do the homework to being to your family doctor so they can provide you the best recommendations and referrals to a child psychiatrist and a Cognitive Behavioral Psychologist.

2. Be patient. It's not going to stop over night. In a week. A month... A year. As a parent, you will have to be involved in every step. Every failure. Every choice that wasn't for them, given to them by a professional. Remember, it's called a "practice" for a reason. So be patient with the doctors, too.

3. You're going to have to have family group sessions and your child, one on one sessions. It takes a village. Build a safe surrounding.
Appropriate assessment and diagnosis for the child, with a mental health professional, will be the first step needed to determine the source of anger and interventions necessary for the child. This could vary from community or home based therapy or an intensive program for the child, depending on the severity of the child's anger. The age of the child, developmental, medical and cognitive issues, multiple environmental factors, family dynamics, must all also be assessed to determine appropriate therapeutic treatment and interventions.
