“What could be the reason for my irregular breathing?”
When I sleep or whenever I am in deep thoughts, my breathing pattern tends to become irregular. What could be the reason for this? Is this a psychological feeling or does it require some treatment?

See your medical doctor to rule out a possible medical condition. Once determined, maybe biofeedback or neurofeedback might help. Seek out a therapist who specializes in these approaches.
I would recommend consulting with your primary care Dr. and get a referral for a sleep study. It will help evaluate your changes to breathing and rule out any physical issues first. If there are none, a consult to a psychologist could possibly help.
Dear Sir/Madam:
As the mind and body are connected, you need to get an evaluation done for both. You can go for a sleep study to rule out physical causes. You can also track, i.e., write down what thoughts are triggering the irregular breathing and explore the underlying issues with a qualified psychologist or psychotherapist to resolve those issues.

I’d speak to a medical doctor. If all is ok, then you might want to see a psychologist.

This should be addressed by your primary care physician.
