Psychiatrists usually prescribe medications, so they may prescribe a medication to treat your anxiety. There are some psychiatrists who still do psychotherapy as well, although this is rather rare in today's world with psychologists, licensed counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals doing psychotherapy today. Evidence indicates psychotherapy and psychotropic medications combined tend to lead to the fastest decrease in anxiety symptoms, although some people prefer or can only access one treatment or the other. Any treatment is usually better than none, so that choice depends on availability, fitness of medication management depending on each patient's biology, and individual preferences for each patient.
Excellent question, as a psychiatrist we have a few medications to treat anxiety, if you find that therapy and deep relaxation and breathing techniques have not helped. Hope that helps.
