What does alkaline phosphatase indicate?

My 19 month old son had blood drawn a week ago and his alkaline phosphatase level was over 4000. What does that indicate?

You need to contact your son's pediatrician as soon as possible.
Hello,
It may be just benign elevation but it needs to be followed. I would request heme evaluation but many times numbers need to be relegated every few weeks and make sure they go down. Kids liver is underdeveloped and they are also growing so elevated alkaline phosphatase may likely be transient elevation. Please consult your Pediatrician.
Hello

Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme involved in bone growth. It is usually high in children. If it is very high, it could indicate vitamin d deficiency.
