What does it mean if you have a kidney infection?

I am a 20 year old male. I want to know what does it mean if you have a kidney infection?

Kidney infection means that you have a microorganism causing an infection in your kidneys. The infection could be bacterial, viral, or fungal and parasite. Thank you.
It usually means having BACTERIA infect the kidney--the medical term is PYELONEPHRITIS and generally requires a week or two of effective ANTIBIOTICS to cure the infection.
