This puts your teeth at extreme risk for forming cavities. In general, your teeth are bathed in spit which help to mechanically wash away the bacteria sitting on your teeth and to neutralize their acid. With an Invisalign retainer in, the spit cannot do either of those things. Therefore, the bacteria will just sit under your aligner and eat away at your teeth. Having impeccable oral hygiene during Invisalign is important if you do not want cavities by the end of treatment.
