Hello, compression garments help the loose skin following liposuction, reframe properly unto your muscles. In addition, it is very uncomfortable to have liposuction and not wear a garment post operative it. It literally feels like your skin is being pulled off, extremely weird feeling.
If you don’t wear compression garments after Lipo- you don’t get as nice a result as you would if you did.
There is a greater chance of bleeding and swelling in the immediate postoperative period. It will also increase the likelihood of prolonged swelling and contour irregularities long term.
The overall results of any liposuction procedure are dependent on the post-operative almost as much as the surgery itself. The use of compression garments for an appropriate amount of time following surgery is an integral part of the success of the procedure.
Basically, you will not have the expected results. The garment adds the necessary compression to stop bleeding, swelling, add to the result, and give some relief pain-wise from the operation. Do not have the the procedure if you plan not to follow the instructions.
There are several reasons why you should wear compression garments. Firstly, you will have loose skin that needs time to shrink. Add to that your bruising and swelling that is largely controlled by compression. Secondly, most patients feel as though their skin is loose (and it is), and are much more comfortable in a snug garment. With that comes significant pain relief. Lastly, for all of the above reasons you are more likely to get a better result and see it sooner if you use compression. The larger the amount of fat removed, the more important it is.

The use of compression garments is not the same with all plastic surgeons. If you have loose skin, I believe they are more important than if your skin is firm. Every plastic surgeon individualizes the treatment for each patient. Follow your PS advice!
