“What happens if you have a cavity on your wisdom teeth?”
I have a cavity on my wisdom teeth. Should I get it removed? What happens if you have a cavity in your wisdom teeth?

Hi,
If the cavity is small and your wisdom tooth is fully erupted, it is possible that you just can put a filling in the tooth ..... but if the cavity is quite large, it would be best getting the tooth extracted!
Great question.

Wisdom teeth are often difficult to clean and prone to decay. If you can clean the teeth and the decay is not too large, you can restore the tooth after decay removal. If the decay is large, you may consider removing the tooth, especially if you have difficulty keeping it clean.
Some people have room in their jaws for the wisdom teeth. If you're one of those, and can keep your wisdom teeth, then just have the cavity fixed, as the wisdom tooth may become very important later in your life. If your teeth are crowded, with little room for the wisdom teeth, it can be removed.
Depending on how far your wisdom tooth has come into your mouth, its angulation and how much crowding there is will be a determining factor. I tend to recommend their removal, because often the reason one gets a cavity in those teeth is because one is unable to adequately clean and care for that area of the mouth.
