Managing Chronic Ankle Joint Pain:
✅ Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation (RICE): Reduce pain and swelling.
✅ Supportive Footwear & Orthotics: Relieve joint pressure.
✅ Low-Impact Exercises: Ankle circles, calf raises, and resistance band stretches.
✅ Pain Relief: Use NSAIDs if needed (consult a doctor).
✅ Physical Therapy: Improve strength and mobility.
✅ Weight Management: Reduce ankle strain.
✅ Medical Options: Bracing, injections, or surgery for severe cases.
Stay consistent with gentle movement and consult a specialist if pain persists.

Reduce inflammation. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for further recommendations.
With any type of chronic pain, one must do a deep dive to see what has happened or is happening to contribute to this condition. In the case of joint pain, previous injury history and a full biomechanical workup are essential. Is the joint pain due to a physical restriction of movement from arthritic changes, or perhaps it is restricted due to a tight or non-engaging muscle. The supporting muscles around or near the joint may be overloaded or deconditioned, thereby transferring more stress onto the joint itself. So as you can see, there is no simple answer to your question. You may require flexibility and/or stability work in and around the ankle. If there is arthritic changes to an ankle joint that is causing physical grinding or impingement, no amount of stretching will reverse those changes. Certain type of injections may be beneficial, such as PRP, cortisone, or ozone (beyond my scope so I defer to the appropriate providers). There are other therapeutic modalities that may be of benefit such as laser, shockwave, Graston or even custom foot orthotics. TL;DR - you need to get an evaluation to determine what or who can help your chronic ankle pain. This may or may not be within the scope of a Chiropractor. Good luck!
