Knee pain comes mostly from fascia strain in the joint space, at the muscle attachments, and/or on the surface/margin of the patella, and to a lesser extent from muscles above, below and behind the joint. Pain never comes from the joint itself because there is no pain sensation in the joint. Any brace, soft (elastic) or rigid (plastic/metal), has no therapeutic effect but is only to avoid movements of the injured muscle/fascia in order to reduce pain. One can choose any kind of brace as long as it is comfortable and serves its purpose. Ultimately, the injury must be resolved. It can be cured by light touch to the injured sites to initiate self-healing internally, requiring only 1-2 hours. This cannot be accomplished by any external means, such as medications, injections, hot/cold, massage, manipulation; and certainly not stretching or strengthening which worsens the injury instead. NEVER and NEVER surgery including total knee replacement, please! This is detailed in my book "NO MORE PAIN All Pain Considered - A Breakthrough".
