Councelor/Therapist Questions Kleptomania

What is the way to treat kleptomania in adults?

I recently discovered that my husband is a kleptomaniac after seeing that he swiped something from our friend's house. What is the way to treat this condition in adults like him?

Kleptomania in adults like children is a response to an unknown and often unmet need. If he is caught the neighbor could press charges, and loose this relationship. Make him aware of his habit to swipe, and identify it for what it is, stealing. Help him see the fruitlessness of this habit and suggest counseling to identify the unmet need that is manifesting in this behavior. Is stealing worth the consequences of losing the relationship? Ask your husband to consider counseling to get to the real issue.
