Dermatologist Questions

What is this?

When I was a soldier in Afghanistan, 2010-2011, we had an interpreter named Zarif. He's stuck there with his family now, and his wife started developing some sort of rash on her face. Because he worked for the US Army, the Taliban wants to kill him; he can't leave his home much.

His wife recently developed a rash on her face. He says it's very painful. Is there anyone who can tell me what it is, and if there is anything he can get to treat it?? Please help!!!

A painful rash on the face can be caused by infection, allergy, or skin disease. Since she is in Afghanistan, some common causes include:

Possible Causes:
Shingles: Painful rash with blisters, often on one side of the face.
Bacterial Infection (like Impetigo or Cellulitis): Red, swollen skin that may have pus or crusting.
Fungal Infection (like Ringworm): Red, scaly, itchy patches.
Allergic Reaction: Skin irritation from something she touched.
Leishmaniasis: A skin disease common in Afghanistan, causing slow-healing sores.
What Can Be Done?
If possible, see a doctor.
For pain: Use painkillers like ibuprofen (if available).
For infection: Try an antibiotic cream (like mupirocin) if it looks like an infection.
For fungal infection: Use antifungal cream (like clotrimazole).
For leishmaniasis: Needs special medicine from a doctor.
If the rash is getting worse, spreading, or she has a fever, she needs urgent medical help. Try to contact a doctor, hospital, or humanitarian group for support.

It looks like Impetigo. The treatment is Mupirocin ointment. You could add an oral antibiotic like Keflex since it is so extensive. They could probably order it from India and have it shipped to them.
