My friend had a stroke a week ago. What kind of therapy is effective after a stroke?

Depending on the type of stroke and what residual effects they have will depend on the specific therapy. The main therapy that is needed is physical therapy if there are muscle weakness and issues vs speech therapy if they are having issues with speaking and talking or swallowing. Some need occupational therapy if they need help relearning how to do things and such. It is very individualized. Your friend should work with their doctor and get into therapy asap to assist and make sure they are taking the medications given by the hospital.

Depending on severity and specific impairments, a multidisciplinary treatment plan may be best. Combination of PT, OT and SLP. If only having weakness on 1 side with mostly just the leg affected, PT only could suffice.
