The few things that cause back pain in a healthy 13-year-old are kidney related, including kidney infection, kidney stones, acute kidney inflammation (uncommon), or urinary reflux. The rest of the causes are muscle, or spine related, or sickle cell disease. There could be other factors that are less common and would need more investigation.

Can be muscle spasms, kidney stones, or a urine infection. If it continues, please see a pediatrician.
