I have low blood sugar. What medications to avoid if you have low blood sugar?

I hesitate to respond to such questions without knowing the person's situation. Certain medications given to treat diabetes can contribute to low blood sugar. The most common are Sulfonylureas, i.e glipizide, and glyburide. These drugs signal the pancreas to secrete insulin over 12 or 24 hours, regardless if you eat or not. So, if you've taken one of these and for whatever reason don't eat, there is an excess of insulin causing sugar in the bloodstream to enter the cells, resulting in low blood sugar.
Avoid insulin and other diabetes medications. Carry some glucose tabs with you.
