Local, sedation and general anesthesia are different ways to blood reduce pain during a procedure.
A number of different types of anesthesia are possible. Your oral surgeon can evaluate your X-ray and recommend the best choice for you. Options range from just numbing the teeth (similar to for fillings), to being sedated. Sedation is very common.
It depends if you need to be put to sleep for wisdom teeth extraction. Wisdom teeth extractions can also be done using only local anesthesia. There are multiple types of local anesthesia and different practitioners use different medications for putting patients to sleep, if required. You would have to check with the practitioner you are having the procedure done with.
Thanks.
