When do I take my anticonvulsant?

My medication suggests that I take my medicine in the morning, but I wake up at different times in the morning. Do I set a time to take my medicine? Such as 7 am? Or do I take my medicine after a certain time? Like an hour after I wake up?

Hi,

First, this is a very good question. When Lamictal is being used for your seizure disorder, it should definitely be taken at the same time everyday. It is very important to keep medication levels consistent for it to be most effective and this is done by taking it at the same time each day. Since you get up at different times each day, you can do one of 2 things: you can choose the latest time you get up every morning as your dosing time each day or you can set your alarm for the same time each day but if you are like me, I wouldn't be able to go
back to sleep once I got woken up. Your pharmacist is also an excellent resource for you to use for any medication questions. Also, try to use the same pharmacy consistently because some medications can have a negative interaction with seizure medications and your pharmacist can monitor this concern for you.
Best of luck to you!
Hello,

It’s best to take your seizure medicine at the same time each morning. It would be good to set an alarm to remind you of the time so that you won’t forget.
Hope this was helpful.

Thanks,
