General Practitioner Questions Infectious Disease Specialist

Which is correct - a hospital test or home covid test?

My friend went to the ER for a broken bone. The ER doctor told her she was positive for covid. When she got home she told her adult children who live with her to go get tested. Her daughter bought a home covid test kit. She tested everyone in house, all came back negative, even my friend. They are confused, which test is correct. The hospital or home test kit?

Hospital N/G test
Home test kits are Rapid covid antigen test.Hospital test was PCR possibly.False negative rates are very high with home kit because of rapid antigen test they use.
So every one in family need confirmatory test with covid PCR test in order to rule out false negative home test.
So I encourage everyone to get covid PCR right away.so need to follow covid precautions until confirmatory test.

Hospital test is correct. The rate of false negative for the home testing is high. Hospital Civid positive predictive value is excellent.
I would take precautions and re test if symptoms develop.
