Why does bread give me diarrhea?

I get diarrhea after eating bread. What could be the cause? Should I see a doctor?

Absolutely! You might developed some type of sensitivity to gluten and need to be seen by your primary care to get a better understanding and diagnosis. Please follow up with your primary care or with our office for more information.
Several things can cause this including problems with absorbing the different minerals and nutrients in bread. More commonly, sometimes breaking down the carbohydrates and bread can be difficult for some people. The other issue could be something called celiac disease or a reaction to gluten in the diet so you should see your doctor for testing to rule this out.
You might be malabsorbing the carbohydrates in the bread. A less likely cause is celiac disease. Yes, seeing a GI doctor can hopefully get an answer for you.
