A gassy abdomen gurgles. It is the movement of food in your stomach. In hunger, too, it can gurgle.
Gurgling of the stomach comes from contractions of the GI tract and this would be normal to notice from time to time. The intestines are rarely still. They are often pushing food and fluid down through the stomach, small intestines and colon. When you are hungry and the stomach is empty then it starts to contract in anticipation of receiving food so you will hear some growling from this. The colon might gurgle or growl as it moves the stool along, especially before a bowel movement. The medical term for gurgling of the intestines is borborygmi.

Peristaltic waves, mostly get in action when your stomach gurgles. You may be hungry or just ate.
