All depends on if you injured your knee. Is it swollen? Do you have joint disease? You won't find an answer until you talk about your health history that could have lead to this moment.
There are several structures that could be damaged in your knee. Make sure you see a doctor to have them examine the knee as soon as you can.
Often knees (unless have direct contact or arthritis) the problem usually arises from the Gluteal muscles and/or the feet. The knees don't have much support and only ligaments hold the structure together. Therefore if you have a weakness in your feet or Gluteal muscles, this can put most pressure on the knee. Definitely seek a proper evaluation and imaging to figure out where the problem is truly coming from.
