Sleep posture may have a lot to do with it. Too soft a mattress can cause this issue. Also, if you are a side sleeper, please put a thin pillow between your knees so the top knee doesn't over lap and rotate over the opposite knee. You will overstretch the SI joint and lumbar spine and wake up most often with low back pain. Hope i helped. Got your back.
You need a proper evaluation.

Most likely arthritis, ice and stretch and get adjusted will help with arthritis pain. Also, reduce fried foods and sugar!!!
Hi there. Without seeing your x-rays of your low back it is hard to say. I have experience with patients having worse pain in their low back upon arising, then after a hot shower and some daily activity, it seems to feel somewhat better. Oftentimes I see some degree of DJD -degenerative joint disease, aka
"wear and tear disease". It is a form of Osteoarthritis where the cartilage within the joints begin to break down and the underlying bone begins to change. Research that and the supplements to take for that, the best time to take them, with or without food.
There are many reasons as to why back pain can be worse in the morning. Without an examination, I would not be able to answer your case specifically. However, some of the most common reasons are stiffness due to being in one position (lying down) for long periods, an old mattress, positioning of your hips and spine while sleeping, and in some cases tossing and turning.
Because you haven't been moving.
There are many reasons for consistent low back pain first thing in the morning. Many times, this is due to arthritic changes in the lumbar spine. Symptoms specifically at certain times may be attributable to what you are doing, in your case, it could be new mattress needs (or if you purchased a new mattress the firmness needs to be adjusted). How active are you physically and/or have you sustained injuries (repetitive or acute). What are your daily habits such as prolonged sitting, standing, squatting. As we age and get caught up in our lives, we may not be as consciously active. The older we get the more important it is to vary our postures, stretch, hydrate and eat high quality foods (especially removing refined sugars out of the diet.)
Generally speaking, lower back pain that is worse in the morning and gets better with movement sounds like degenerative disc that is developing. Further evaluation with a chiropractor will help assist in determining your condition.
Hello, most of the time if your back pain is worse in the morning it could be due to degenerative joint disease, basically arthritis in the lower back. You can always rule it out with a lower back X-ray.
Your joints, including the low back ones, get their "lubrication" from movement. When we are sleeping we don't move enough to lubricate the joints. Before you get out of bed, do about 6 knee to chest stretches on both legs. That should help. Like moving a rusty hinge.
It could be a number of reasons causing your low back pain to be worse in the mornings. It could be your sleep position or it could be your bed? The first thing you need to do is get a chiropractic examination so we can determine the cause of the back pain. Your sleep position, or bed maybe making an underlying problem worse.
At 59, you are probably dealing with some early onset degenerative changes to the spine; it's normal at 59. The joints, as they age, become wore down, and this leads to decreases in range of motion and then stiffness. So, I would work on some stretching. Heating pad at night before bed, maybe some cardio if you aren't doing that already. It will get better.
Can be because your mattress is not supportive enough. Sleep position can be an issue. Lack of flexibility in the morning can also affect it. A good chiropractor will address all these issues along with adjusting for reduced pain and increased function.
Pain worse in the morning that relieves throughout the day with motion and activity generally indicates degenerative changes in the spine. The older we get, the more likely it is to have some of these changes occur. These changes to your spine are fairly permanent but the pain you are getting can be alleviated. Luckily, this condition is very common and can be treated easily with chiropractic care. Check out our website at portolavalleychiro.com to learn more.
