Splinting, casting, offloading boots, and braces are all often used in most rehabilitative plans after ankle surgery. The timing and the usage of the durable medical equipment depends on the level of involvement and severity of injury or condition. All postoperative courses can vary for different types of ankle surgery. Please follow the guidelines of your surgeon closely for optimal results.
In my practice, the answer is yes, Initially I place your ankle in a splint, then graduate to a Cam Walker and then into a Brace around 6 to 8 weeks after surgery and keep you in it for approx. 3 months.
It depends on the type of ankle surgery and your surgeon's preference.  You need to ask your surgeon or his nurse.
It depends on what type of ankle surgery you have in the extent of the repair. Some minor procedures do not always require a brace. I would check with the doctor performing the surgery. Jonathan M. Kletz, DPM Texas Foot WorksDallas, Athens and Gun Barrel City Texas214-340-8885
Hi! This is a discussion you will have with your surgeon depending on what procedure you are having. A brace would be used for a little extra support for a period of time while you get back to your usual routine.
Hello, Thank you for your question. We have to evaluate you and take foot x-rays if needed.
That depends on what type of surgery you are having.
