“Will the ER remove hemorrhoids?”
I am a 29 year old male and I have painful hemorrhoids. Will ER remove hemorrhoids?

Depends on the type of hemorrhoids you have. Most types of hemorrhoids can be TREATED in the ER and the treatment will resolve the pain and bleeding and swelling. But rarely do we REMOVE hemorrhoids in the emergency department. On some occasions we lance a thrombosed (clotted) hemorrhoid in the emergency department so the pain is relieved and the hemorrhoids heel faster. Hope you feel better soon.
IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE THE HEMORRHOID IS, IF IT IS THROMBOSED, AND THE ER DOCTOR. SOME ER DOCTORS ARE MORE LIKELY TO REMOVE THAN OTHERS. IF THE HEMORRHOID IS PAINFUL AND ON EXAM IT APPEARS TO BE A CLOTTED MASS, THOSE CAN BE OPENED TO LET THE CLOT OUT AND WILL RELIEVE PAIN. SHORT ANSWER IS YES.
No. Not unless it is bleeding so much that it causes serious anemia or causes you to become unstable. In that case, surgery would be consulted and they may address them. For a stable hemorrhoid, you will get symptomatic treatment for the pain.
No, they can give you medication, but most ED's will not remove hemorrhoids. It needs to be done by a surgeon.
The ER may lance a swollen external hemorrhoid that contains a blot clot known as a thrombosed hemorrhoid, however in general the ER serves to diagnose, treat if possible or temporize a non-emergent condition until you are able to be seen by a specialist. The ER will not perform an operation to remove hemorrhoids. If surgical intervention is required, the ER will notify a specialist on call to further evaluate and treat.
