Wrist Injury

So, last year in May, I tripped into a boat and caught myself. It did hurt a lot, but I was playing it off. A few seconds later, I passed out and fell over the side. I've never passes out before and I'm not a squeamish person. I also don't take any medication. Ever since then, when I crawl or put my head on the heel of my hand, it hurts my wrist. It is a sharp, stinging pain. It's not horrible and doesn't last long, but it's been getting worse. Now my wrist also hurts sometimes when I bend it. My mom says it's just going to be like that and there's probably nothing wrong, but she also told me my toe was broken after I kicked a fridge once and it was completely healed in two days, so... I want real medical advice.

Thanks for the question, unfortunately it is tough to determine what the cause of the pain might be based on what you have told me. It sounds like something called a peripheral Nerve entrapment , which can be from the wrist being subluxated/dislocated or a muscle that was strained being stuck to it. Best advice is go get it evaluated, and the doctor can steer you the right way once they know what was injured.
My advice would be to seek medical attention, specifically an x-ray. Some of the carpal bones are prone to avascular necrosis after a fracture. You need to make sure that your wrist healed properly, especially if you fractured one of the carpal bones when you fell.
It sounds like a sprain of your wrist ligaments, combined with a subluxated bone in your wrist. Likely chronic now. A good chiropractor or PT should be able to free up the subluxated bone with manipulation, and then perhaps begin a "Graston" regimen. (Graston is a name brand for "instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization") Most likely when you sprained your wrist, it began a normal healing process, but if the bones aren't positioned properly, the ligament would not be able to heal correctly and develop scar tissue and stress across the joint. Any sprain (small tears of a ligament) or strain (small tears of muscle or tendon) will undergo a healing response naturally. There are 3 grades of sprain/strains, and all but a complete tear can heal without intervention, but may leave scar tissue that can shorten the ligament or tendon, causing dysfunction. If it still hurts a year later under normal daily activities, it will likely develop arthritis in the future. You are still young, and young people usually respond quickly to care. If a course of conservative care doesn't produce results in 2-4 weeks, You will need an X Ray at minimum, and probably an MRI to rule out tears and occult fracture. Of course you can do the diagnostics first, and any good therapist will let you know if it is necessary before beginning any treatment. There are a lot of new, fancy treatments; cold laser, shockwave therapy, ect.. that may help, but I would combine them with manipulation and Graton if the physical exam dictates it. Good Luck!
Morning,

I would recommend you see a Chiropractor and better yet and Chiropractor that is more SPORTS oriented. Usually those Chiros have “sport” in their practices name, for example “Spine and Sport Clinc”, stuff like that. You can always call any Chiro and ask.

Even better would have a sport’s Chiropractor get a quick X-ray if the wrists (both) and make sure nothing funny is going on. Most likely nothing is broken and the chiropractor can help your wrists, arm and everything around it to really get it better. As of now I would not recommend a medical doctor because they won’t do anything a very very high percent of the time and say what your mom is trying to say like nothing is going on. They also will only give you meds which don’t fix anything. You need to have someone figure out what’s causing the issue and actually fix it with Manuel Type care, things like mobilizations, adjustments, soft tissue work (massage), stuff like that. You don’t want this to crutch you the rest of your life. I hope this helps and steers you in the right direction. Remember you are also a minor so you still have to follow your parents guidance but I hope this helps bring light a different perspective that could help you feel better. I am only offering my quick ideas of what I do in practice all day every day. I hope you can share with your family and make a more informed decision.
