Hematologist-Oncologist Questions Blood

After an accident, how fast can the body make blood again?

My son who is 23 years old suffered from a major road accident for which he was given blood transfusion. His condition has stabilised now, but the doctors have suggested some more blood transfusion. How soon should his body start creating blood on its own?

His body should start making red blood cells immediately if he has enough iron in his diet. If he is up walking, he should not need transfusions for a hemoglobin greater than 8 unless the doctor has special reasons to do so.
