Are all babies born with blue eyes?

I delivered my child recently and she has blue eyes, when both my husband and I do not. My friend told me that all babies have blue eyes. Is this true? Why are all babies born with blue eyes?

Not every baby is born with blue eyes. Those babies born to parents with darkly pigmented irises are more likely to have brown eyes at birth or shortly after. I have green eyes, our children's mother has dark brown eyes. My daughter was born with dark brown eyes and my son was born with slate grey eyes which rapidly turned dark brown as a baby. While the range of coloration in eyes is remarkably varied, the genetics is relatively simple. We have genes for iris pigment ( brown in some variation, including green) and genes for no iris pigment ( blue). The brown gene is dominant and if you inherit it from one parent, you will have some variation of brown. If you inherit the recessive blue gene from both parents you will have blue eyes. In rare cases other factors will interfere with the development of pigment and can lead to eyes of different color, ie. one brown and one blue.
Not all babies are born with blue eyes. Babies can be born wit blue, green, brown, etc., eyes. You and your husband can have each a blue eye gene (which is recessive!) and statistically, your child can inherit blue gene from each of you and no dominant born gene, therefore the eyes are blue. There is also a good chance that the blue changes to a darker color later on as some genes can express themselves later with increase pigmentation. Genes and statistics are fascinating!!

Babies are usually born with much less pigment than they will develop later as adults. Eyes have less pigment in the newborn but will usually change color as iris pigmentation increases. So most newborn babies will have very light colored eyes but will progress to hazel, green, and brown. Some will stay blue of they don't develop pigmentation.
definitely not. the colour is pigment dependant
Not all babies are born with blue eyes. It’s a genetically inherited feature. Usually one parent has blue eyes . It may not be so obvious in adults but a baby’s white sclera enhances the blue on the iris.
