Rheumatologist (Pediatric) Questions Lupus

Are kidney transplants common in kids with lupus?

My daughter was diagnosed with lupus when she was 13 years old. Now that she's 16 years old, it's been affecting her kidneys quite negatively to the point where the doctor is suggesting a kidney transplant. Are kidney transplants common in kids with lupus?

Kidney transplants can occur in pediatric patients with Lupus. I would encourage you to discuss this further with your child's nephrologist.
If a kidney transplant is needed the physician will order it. It is okay to test for a transplant and to have it available.
