“Are there social workers for veterans?”
My father is a veteran and I want him to get as many benefits as he can have. Are social workers that can help veterans? Right now, he's having a lot of trouble finding work.

Yes in fact the VA, the US Public Health Service, and the military as well as many non-profits represent the largest employers of social workers.
The United States Veterans Administration has the largest funding mental health resources. They have many social workers who only work with veterans of all ages. Call for local VA mental health resources at 877-222-8387 or TTY: 800-877-8339. You can use some services even if you’re not enrolled in VA health care.
You local VA should have social workers. I have applied for positions at the VA here in Wichita KS in the past and have known social workers who were employed there. They might even have case managers who would assist in helping him find employment.
Hi!
Social workers may specialize working with certain populations or in specific settings that serve their specialty populations. For example, social workers who work at settings that primarily serve veterans may be experts in veterans' benefits. I believe many veterans prefer to reach out for help through veterans' affairs. However, there are also differences in resources by state. In NJ, for example, there is peer support and referral for veterans through Rutgers UBHC Vet to Vet program and there are mental health/substance use supports for veterans provided by different agencies. There is help for homeless or at risk of homelessness vets available by calling 877-4AID-VET (424-3838).
