I need to have a surgery that will treat my inguinal hernia. Are you typically awake for this surgery?

You can be awake or asleep.
This procedure can be done either under general or under spinal block with intravenous sedation. You are not awake.
You can be awake, but the extent of the surgery depending on your specific situation may determine whether you want to be awake or not.
