Anesthesiologist Questions Angioplasty

Are you put to sleep for angioplasty?

I'm 50 years old and am going to have an angioplasty in the next coming days. Are you usually put to sleep during this exam?

Rarely, usually just local with some sedation
Typically moderate sedation, not full sleep.
Not usually. Sometimes nothing, or sometimes a bit of sedation.
That depends on several factors, including the type of angioplasty and the practices of the clinicians providing your care. Many angioplasty procedures can be done with lighter sedation and local anesthetics. The clinician doing your procedure will be able to provide you with the specifics tailored to your individual needs.
Yes, the type of anesthesia depends on the type and extent of the angioplasty.
Angioplasty procedure is usually done under sedation and Local anesthetic. There are exceptions but not many.

Good Luck.

Typically not. You will receive IV sedation most likely. It’s the rare situation (at least in my experience) when you’ll be given deep sedation or general anesthesia. You will be comfortable during the procedure. Your cardiologist will be using local anesthesia to numb the insertion sites in your groin. It’s important to stay still during the procedure. These procedures last about one hour.
No, an angioplasty is usually done without anesthesia. Sometimes they can use some anti-anxiety meds per person request.
Different providers have different preferences. Please ask yours.
