Anesthesiologist Questions Anesthesia

Why did my blood pressure drop when I was given anesthesia?

I underwent a minor surgery and was given anesthesia. As soon I received it, my blood pressure decreased significantly. Did anesthesia cause this?

Known side effect.
General anesthesia induces vasodilation in peripheral blood vessels. This means that the small arteries and veins get larger and more blood pools in these vessels instead of the larger blood vessels that maintain your blood pressure. This is a known effect and is usually transient and short-lived. There are generally no long-term ill effects from this.
