I am a 40 year old male. I want to know if I can drink coffee before a PET scan?

Hi,
Unfortunately, the short answer is no. Many sites have slightly different protocols, but in general, nothing other than non-flavored water during the 4 hours (this timing may vary) before
your exam. So, you're aware they will likely cancel your exam if you do drink coffee. The important reason is that it may actually skew your results. Caffeine and sugars particularly can elevate metabolic activity and this can significantly affect the images your PET scan will make which can lead to a false diagnosis.
Hope that helps and good luck!
