“Can OCD be cured?”
My brother has been diagnosed with OCD last year. We did not start any treatment for him, however his behaviour is now worsening. Whom should we consult and can this condition be treated with therapy and medications?

There is no cure for OCD, but it can be controlled and greatly improved with treatment. The two types of treatment that have been proven to work for OCD are 1) cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) using a technique called exposure and response prevention (ERP) and 2) medication treatment. The combination of CBT and medications works best.
Your brother should start by getting an evaluation by a psychiatrist or psychologist who has experience treating OCD, and starting treatment ASAP.

You are a great brother to be concerned and recommend seeing a psychiatrist for a full evaluation ASAP and yes therapy and mediation can absolutely help and best outcomes for significant OCD symptoms is both therapy and meds at the same time...Wishing your brother freedom from OCD as this can be such a taxing condition causing mental fatigue with all the obsessions and need for rituals/compulsions as well as embarrassment and often an avoidance of going places and doing things as person feels so controlled by their OCD symptoms...But, this is indeed very treatable and I see my patients 70-80 plus percent better with medications and the rest with therapy. OCD can be treated quite well with medications and some targeted therapy. You should consult a psychiatrist and get your brother evaluated.
OCD is common along with other psychiatric diagnoses. He should see a psychiatrist soon and therapy will help. OCD can be controlled.
All the best,
All the best,
OCD can't be "cured" but can be treated with therapy and medications, combination of both is most effective. I recommend starting with a psychiatrist who can do a full assessment as well as lab work and then add a therapist.
OCD can be controlled with help of treatment. He will need therapy as well as medications. He should be seen by a psychiatrist for medication management and a psychologist for therapy.
Your brother should certainly be evaluated by a psychiatrist who can provide both psychodynamic psychotherapy and medication as may be needed by a given patient. OCD is highly variable in every patient who suffers from it. The question of cure of OCD is problematic. It is due to an inborn disposition in your brother which is likely to be activated by stressful events and/or life conditions. OCD can be moderated by reduction of life stresses and, generally, combinations of psychotherapy and medication can more or less reduce symptoms and are the best way to go. OCD does not tend to disappear on its own.
Good luck.

No, but it can be greatly diminished by the introduction of Serotonergic agents. As 35% of the US population is sensitive to SSRI's these can't be used. Non pharmacological means like Biogeedback and CBT may help greatly. GABA may reduce the accompanying anxiety. Patience is the key. Some atypical antipsychotics may help due to its set atomic properties depending on the severity.
A psychiatrist, consider MAOI's; they are the only medication I've seen to eliminate OCD in some patients. That, combined with a good graded exposure/CBT program I think is the quickest an most effective. Has your brother had pneumonia - in pediatrics PANDAS follows strep A pneumonia and Mlycoplasma pneumonia. Doxycycline often takes care of that.

If you believe he has OCD, he should see a good psychiatrist for a thorough and comprehensive diagnostic interview. How old is he? OCD does respond well to treatment with a combination of medications and therapy. The therapy should be founded on "exposure and response prevention" techniques. A psychiatrist should be seen on a regular basis to prescribe and monitor medications.
