Can a child be allergic to the flu shot?

My 10 year old daughter is getting the flu shot soon. Can a child be allergic to the flu shot?

Any patient with an intact immune system can have an unexpected allergic reaction to substances entering or touching the body. Individuals can also be 'sensitive' to substances --- a sensitivity reaction is different than an allergy, but is undesirable nonetheless. The most notorious "allergy" to the influenza vaccine is individuals who are allergic to chicken eggs. However, in recent seasons, that contraindication has been modified by the Centers for Disease Control, so talk to your doctor for further information.
