Chiropractor Questions Chiropractic Adjustment

Can a chiropractor help me with my sciatica?

After the birth of my son I have been having terrible sciatic pain. Can a chiropractor help with this? If so, what is the chiropractic treatment for sciatica?

Chiropractic typically gets great results with sciatic pain. They will find the location of the Nerve irritation and make specific adjustments to your spine to relieve that nerve irritation.
Yes, Chiropractic manipulation is very effective for sciatica.
Yes. Many times giving birth or carrying the baby will lead to misalignment of the sacrum and the pubic symphisis which will irritate the sciatic nerve. Correcting these misalignments fixes the problem.
Yes Chiropractic can help with this pain. The Chiropractor will assess the cause of pain and make corrections to the spine, pelvis, and appropriate muscles to improve function and reduce pain.
Yes, chiropractic helps this. It may not be true sciatica, but see one. It is very helpful through pregnancies and post-partum, too.
Hi,

Absolutely. Chiropractors are trained to treat sciatica issues. We are specialized in those types of condition. What I would advise you to do is when you make the appointment at your chiropractor to ask if they do have experience with pregnancy and post-partum patients as it would be beneficial in your case to go to a chiropractor who does. Chiropractors use adjustments, muscle work and possibly modalities like electrical muscle stimulation to treat sciatica issues. We also use decompression techniques, manual or with a special machine to treat nerve compression issues as well. We also will show you stretches or home exercises that you can do at home to hold the adjustment and keep your spine/musculoskeletal system stable and prevent any further instability or pain related to your sciatica pain. Especially post-partum (after giving birth), it is extremely beneficial that you seek chiropractic treatment to help you get back to your optimal health and be pain-free to take care of your little one.

Congratulations on the birth of your bundle of joy! Hope this helps.

As you are aware sciatica is a condition when a nerve is irritated in the low back region of the spine it causes pain traveling down to the leg to the toes depending on the severity of the sciatica. Therefore, the solution that chiropractors are excellent at tearing would be alignment of the spine with chiropractic adjustment in order to relieve the nerve irritation and thus giving you immediate relief. However you must do your part and follow up with further chiropractic treatments and do your homework in performing specific low back exercises on a daily basis to strengthen the muscles in the low back regions of the spine.
Chiropractic is very effective in treating sciatica which is a very common side affect of pregnancy. During pregnancy the alignment of the lumbar spine and pelvic area are altered due to increased forward weight bearing. Because of this certain joints, specifically the sacroiliacs, become subluxated (fixated) and lose normal mobility. This in turn increases tension of the piriformis muscle under which the sciatic nerve courses down into the leg. Chiropractic manipulation to the sacroiliac joints to increase their mobility releases this tension therefore relieving the sciatica. You must be patient. Depending on the longevity of your condition it may take several treatments to obtain substantial relief.
By all means, you should definitely try chiropractic care first for your sciatica. The doctor will examine you to determine the cause of the sciatica and advise and treat accordingly. This is a very common occurrence after childbirth for mothers. We treat it in our practice regularly.
Chiropractic is very effective in treating sciatic pain. There are various techniques that a chiropractor will use to diagnose the cause of the sciatica and remove the nerve pressure by manipulating the spine and/or reducing disc pressure on the nerve.
