Can antidepressants help with an eating disorder?

I am a 29 year old male and I have an eating disorder. Can antidepressants help with an eating disorder?

This depends on the eating disorder, medical condition of the person seeking treatment, and a person's existing mood functioning. Some antidepressants can promote or increase appetite suppression which would be counter-intuitive for some eating disorders. While other mood stabilizing medications can create increased appetite which can also be contraindicated in eating disorder treatment protocols.
Dear Sir,

Sorry to hear that you have an eating disorder. Are you seeing a licensed psychologist for this issue? Not every state provides psychologist permission to prescribe medication. So, by law, I am not allowed to give any opinion on antidepressants or other medications. You may want to ask your PCP for this information or consult a psychiatrist and they will be able to provide the information that you need.
Take care and remain safe.

Antidepressants have been used in treatment plans for those with eating disorders, specifically binge eating due to their ability to increase certain neurotransmitters in the brain.
