Can athletes get rheumatoid arthritis?

My grandfather was an athlete and his doctor diagnosed him with rheumatoid arthritis. How is this possible? He used to exercise all the time up until he turned 60, and I always thought that exercising was a way to prevent it.

No one is immune and/or protected against developing RA

RA is a condition of the joint lining or SYNOVIUM and when “activated” , the body produces activated proteins that cause the synovium to be engorged and inflamed with proteins called CYTOKINES which cause inflammatory swelling and joint damage
THIS IS VERY TREATABLE TODAY
