“Can birth defects happen in the third trimester?”
I am a 22 year old pregnant female. I want to know if birth defects can happen in the third trimester?

Hello,
You are correct: Birth defects cannot occur past 12 weeks. However, there are some infections that can cause some problems with the baby while in utero, these are not birth defects per se.
