Anesthesiologist Questions Local Anesthesia

Can a tonsillectomy be done under local anesthesia?

My daughter needs to have a tonsillectomy soon and I'm wondering if it can be done with local anesthesia. I don't want her to deal with any side effects of general, if there are any. Is local anesthesia possible?

A good question. I saw in my training days ENT surgeons in Spain performing tonsillectomy under local anesthesia. I always give general anesthesia for this; but one day had a young woman 21yrs who refused geta, so I consulted with the surgeon and he agreed to give local. I gave sedation only. She tolerated the procedure well. But you have to know that sometimes can start with local anesthesia and ends with general due to complications. Suggest consult with your doctors.
